The ProYard mentorship scheme is designed to support livery yard owners in the development and improvement of their businesses. The mentorship is lead by Cheryl Johns, industry expert and consultant, who can help guide you through the ups and down of yard ownership and management.
Our support and mentoring packages give you the opportunity for affordable and tailored one-to-one guidance for all practical and administrative aspects of running your yard. Whether you want to join a group of like-minded professional yard owners for ad-hoc support and advice through our ProYard Facebook Group, just need a short and sharp “Masterclass” to help with a specific issue, or are looking for more long term support with one of our longer-term “Inspiration” or “Business Builder” support packages, we can tailore your support to your needs.
Our “Inspiration” package is ideal for those wanting a level of hand holding to review, change or develop their businesses, or for those seeking a little more support we have the 6-month “Business Builder” package as a complete support system, which is ideal for those planning their new yard, or recent start ups who are looking for a little extra support for their first few months.
The support services and mentorship packages can help you understand business sustainability, calculating your costs for long term viability, client management and documentation, plus help develop all areas of practical and administrative management for the horses in your care, and the clients on your yard.
Our options are open to all, and our packages are just as applicable to owners of riding schools or equestrian centres. Owning a yard can demand a difficult trio of business management, horse management and people management, and yard owners are unlikely to have experience or confidence in all three. Our packages can help identify and improve areas of your business and to support and guide you through these changes.
As another option, you can also join our Livery Yard Owners UK- ProYard: Serious About Success Facebook group. This is a paid version of our original yard owner support group established in 2016, and offers more tailored advice, news and industry features and articles, limited membership numbers and other advantages, and provides direct support from an industry leading expert, alongside numerous resources and guidance from reputable and reliable industry sources.

A business mentor can help you develop your skills, refine your ideas, and determine the direction you want to take your business. Sometimes all that is needed to make good business decisions is a little confidence. Having the consistent support of an industry expert who can help guide and reassure you can be invaluable whether your are setting up a new yard from scratch, or just want to implement changes to secure the future of your business.
Whilst you have generic business mentors readily offering their services, few will have such in depth knowledge of our industry, and Cheryl can draw upon her extensive experience and skills, as well as her in-depth industry knowledge to help yard owners work towards a sustainable and successful business. The mentorship and support packages offer a safe and supportive environment to develop your personal and business skills, and to gain a better understanding of your business.
The ProYard “Masterclass” option gives a 1-hour one-to-one session by voice or video call to discuss, guide or problem solve on any specific aspect of running your yard. This could include, but is not limited to, costings and finances, livery contracts, client management or marketing. This is ideal for anyone looking to make changes to their business, or experiencing difficulties with any particular aspect where a plan of action can be formed.
The cost of a “Masterclass” session is £55
The ProYard “Inspiration” package gives you an 8-week tailored course to help develop specific aspects of your business, or as an intense overview of the business as a whole.
This course includes an initial 2-hour voice or video call with Cheryl, plus a 1-hour in depth review of your business to best ascertain the areas needed for improvement, or to review the aspects you need help with. This is then followed by weekly 1-hour voice or video calls to chat through developments, build on previous discussions and actions, and to generally check in. This also includes 1-hour closing call to help develop a further plan of action.
The ProYard “Inspiration” package also give you access to the extensive resources, as well as guidance on the use and implementation, and unlimited email support.
If further support is still needed at the end of the course, additional sessions can be booked at a supplementary charge on a pay-as-you-go basis.
The cost of the “Inspiration” package is £585
The ProYard “Business Builder” package is a 6-month tailored course to help develop all aspects of your business. This is an ideal option for those looking to start a new yard or those wanting to review or change direction from their current set up.
This course includes an initial 2-hour voice or video call with Cheryl, plus a 1-hour in depth review of your business, to best ascertain the areas needed for improvement, or to review the aspects you need help with. This is then followed by three months of weekly 30-minute voice or video calls to chat through developments, build on previous discussions and actions, and to generally check in. We then move onto bi-monthly 45-minute calls (which is reviewed as appropriate at the time).
This also includes 1-hour closing call to help develop a further plan of action, and support from our extensive partnership network. The course also give you access to the extensive resources, as well as guidance on the use and implementation, and unlimited email support.
The cost of the “Business Builder” package is £990
There is also the option to add a half day yard visit to this package at a cost of £175 plus travel expenses
