The British Equestrian Trade Association’s (BETA) Summer of Safety has begun, providing lots of opportunities for equestrians to learn how to keep themselves and their horses a whole lot safer. As part of their Summer of Safety, Cheryl Johns of LiveryList – who are BETA Associate members, and industry recognised for their guidance provided on the topics of yard management- spoke to Claire Williams, Executive Director of BETA, about how to keep yourself and your clients safe whilst on the yard.
The #BSOS is now in its third year, with the idea behind the campaign coming about in a bid to help demystify safety through providing more information around standards alongside real stories that bring it to life and allow the industry and wider community to learn from one another.
In the 30-minute conversation, from both a yard owner and rider perspective, we share some key points on keeping safe in and out of the saddle, considerations for competing and hacking out over the summer months, plus general health and safety advice for humans and equines that can, in fact, be applied year round! As well as this, from a yard management perspective we cover aspects of client and equine management that may need special consideration over the summer months.
